This black stoneware vessel echoes proportions similar to those of Chinese women with wrapped feet, an ancient tradition associating all that is small and discreet to elegance. This omnipresent theme is notably visible at the remarkably narrow base of the vessel, highlighting a seemingly unstable. Comparable to the Asian women who would shift from side to side when walking, the vessel reveals this same feminine, dance-like form, counterbalanced by primitive heart-drawn shapes that imitate parietal art from prehistoric times.
To modernise the sleek porcelain texture present in a Classical Chinese vase, black sand stoneware was chosen and applied hand-thrown and white semi opaque zinc oxide-glaze with the dripping marks to juxtapose the rough finish of the clay.
